This building had by far the greatest roof to climb on as a kid. As I'm sure a number of us used to climb on the roof to look through the big windows above the Main hall to watch our folks party the night away!
For me the most mysterious, coolest place was the Stauchlager, with all those old historic photo's and a cool bar. A bar with no windows in Oranjemund always appealed to me.
This was August Stauch, the foreman of Zacharia Lawella, who whilst working on the building of the Aus - Luderitz railway, found the first diamond at a place called Kolmanskop.
This photo was mounted on the wall at the enterance to the Stauchlager.
The Stauchlager has now been outsourced and is run as a private restaurant!
